Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced UV Anti-Age Cream SPF50 Review

Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced UV Anti-Age Cream SPF50

It’s about time I did a SPF review, don’t you think?

I’ve been trying out different SPF’s over the past couple of months to find one that is right for me. I picked this one up in @Boots a couple of months back and I have nearly finished it.

SPF is important to incorporate into your routine as UV rays from the sun are harmful to the skin and cause visible signs of ageing, including wrinkles and skin discolouration. More importantly, wearing SPF can help lower the risk of skin cancer. I always prefer to wear a SPF50 for my face for added protection.

This product has added ingredients such as Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, and hyaluronic acid which is a great humectant that helps boosts and prevents moisture loss.

Positives ✅

What I like about this product is that it does not leave me with a white cast at all and it is very hydrating. I do not bother to apply a moisturiser underneath it, as on its own it does a good enough job. It is a Factor 50+ and boasts a 4-star UVA protection rating.

Whilst it has a slight SPF smell to it, it’s not overpowering.

Negatives ❌

This really does not play well when layering products and it pills off my face badly. And I mean badly. I only have to lightly brush my face with my hand and it literally falls off my face.

My routine when using this product is Cleanse, 2 serums, SPF, done. I’ve tried using one serum, using different brands serums, making sure I’m layering products in the correct order, ensuring everything is absorbed before applying the next step, and still it pills. I have never experienced this with any other SPF. I found applying a light base of moisturiser before applying the SPF can prevent the pilling, but I find applying a moisturiser underneath makes my skin look and feel too greasy.  As such this has much become a SPF I wear around the house when I know I don’t have to see anyone.

This leaves your face with a shine, but not a ‘glowing’ sort of shine. I’m talking a greasy, unwashed face sort of shine. That being said, the shine is a lot better than a non-face SPF, but it’s still not great against other products out there.

Verdict 👨‍⚖️

This would be a fairly good product if the pilling wasn’t so horrendous, so perhaps use it when you are doing a very basic routine with no serums. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it for people with oily skin, as you may find it a bit too greasy for your liking.

I like the fact it’s cheap, has an excellent SPF factor, UVA rating and comes in a 100ml bottle. Seriously, why are all face SPF’s around 50ml. Give me 100ml bottles please.   Would I buy again? No.

Let me know if you have ever tried this before and what you thought of it.
