Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Review

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Gentle Exfoliating Treatment

Apparently Kate Somerville ExfoliKate is a product that the people of the UK seem to dislike. I saw Kate Somerville mention this during a live with Caroline Hirons. I think it’s probably because people are a bit scared of scrubs and prefer chemical exfoliation. Using scrubs has its benefits, providing it’s the right kind of scrub (aka, not crushed walnut shells or anything that can be ‘scratchy’).

Well I like to give things a try even if they’re not a product that’s ‘in’. I have to say I’m obsessed. You guys, the glow you get after using this is amazing! My face feels so smooth, any texture issues are immediately finished and it just feels like I’ve renewed my skin. I use either one once a week on a Sunday night.

What is in ExfoliKate?

It contains two forms of exfoliation – physical and chemical. Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid act are the chemical exfoliants that help to loosen the ‘glue’ between dead skin cells. You then have Silica that acts as the physical exfoliant to rid the ‘unglued’ skin cell . Note: Salicylic Acid is only in the Intensive version.

How is it for me?

It’s important to note that I have dry skin so the act of physical exfoliation really works wonders with me. I find that not only does this help slosh off the dead skin cells, but it means that my other products can sink in better, providing me with more hydration.

I do get sensitive skin from time-to-time depending on what I’m doing to it but these two I can tolerate absolutely fine without any issues.

How do I use it?

Both of these you massage into damp skin and leave for up to 2 minutes (don’t scrub too hard). I find about a minute and a half works best for me. Do whatever works for you (so long as you don’t go over the two minutes). Afterwards, I use a nice hydrating routine without any actives.

Obviously, the Sensitive version is less harsh than the original. It’s sadly being discontinued, so I won’t dwell on it too much. You can get the sensitive version on the Kate Somerville website at a reduced price if you’re interested.

£21.00 for 15ml or £74.00 for 60ml
