Aldi Skincare – Hit or Miss?

Aldi Skincare – a hit for some, a total miss for others. Why? And what do I think about their products?

For me it’s a hit. Let me explain why. You scroll through Instagram and see hundreds of different product recommendations. Some are budget friendly but, in my experience, for the most part, it’s more expensive high-end products that get traction.

The truth of the matter is, not everyone can afford the high-end expensive products. Of course, there are always people who can afford it but would never spend upwards of £15 on a skincare product. And you know what? That’s ok. There are lots of budget options out there and this is important because skincare needs to be inclusive of all budgets.

Now, there is a divide in opinion on the ethics of their products. Some would not look twice at them because they are heavily influenced by higher end products – a ‘dupe’ (some would say a blatant rip-off). My thoughts? While questionable, I support it.

People need access to products that suit their budget and from a marketing standpoint, it’s a lot easier to sell a product if someone feels they are getting something similar to a more expensive product at a lower price point. It’s funny how the snobbery that comes from dupes only seems to apply to skincare. No one seems bothered when its clothing or food. 🤔

I think some of the Aldi products are really great while also being budget friendly. There’s a few I’m not interested in (the toners are shit), but for the most part I think they’re great.

Really my only complaint about the Aldi products are that they’re only in stock for a limited time, and after that they disappear in most cases forever. This makes things difficult, because if you find something you love you may not be able to get your hands on it again.

Here are a few of my favourite finds.

Caviar Day & Night Cream £6.99
Allegedly a dupe for the La Prairie Skin Caviar Cream. I can’t comment on how it compares, but the Aldi version is a gorgeous textured, thick barrier cream that gives you a lovely glow. It has a nice pleasant scent to it. This is the only of the range of products featured in the post that is permanently in store.

Moisture Boost Hydrating Gel Moisturiser & Eye Cream £4.99
These are a ‘dupe’ for Clinique Moisture Surge range. The resemblance is very similar, but has a slightly less sticky and thick texture.

Multi-Peptide Moisturiser £6.99
People are saying this is a ‘dupe’ for the DE peptide cream. It’s not – it has a totally different consistency. I haven’t given this a proper try yet, but first impressions are good. It’s lovely and hydrating, and I’m obsessed with peptides anyway. You really can’t go wrong for £6.99…

Jelly Cleanser £3.99
A ‘dupe’ for the DE Jelly Cleanser. I actually really like this. It’s so cheap, but so effective. It’s fragrance free too.
