Why I unsubscribed from Beauty Pie

Ahh Beauty Pie. It’s time to say goodbye. It’s been fun while it lasted.

What is Beauty Pie?

If you’re unfamiliar with Beauty Pie, it’s a membership service where you pay a monthly or annual subscription fee to access premium products at a lower price. Think of it like CostCo but for skincare and makeup. That’s the basis, but it does get a little bit more complicated. It’s really hard to explain exactly. Might be worth checking out a YouTube video on it.

I first subscribed to Beauty Pie in 2021. I was paying a monthly fee of £10 which I have recently cancelled. Let’s get in to some of the reasons I cancelled:

Reasons why I cancelled

  1. The price of the products as a member are forever increasing. I feel every time I log in to make an order the prices on some products have increased. An example being the Plantastic Cleansing Balm. It was approx. £14 when I first ordered it, now it’s £18.92. Not a huge increase, but part of the charm was that you felt you were getting something good at cheap prices. BeautyPie is marketed as a buyers club, meaning more members = cheaper prices, except the prices have never decreased.
  2. In my opinion, the ‘Typical Price’ placed on products seem overinflated and unreasonable. Sorry, but the Jeju Rehydration Mist is not worth £40. It’s worth the member price – £11.83. Your spending is capped by your allowance, which is based upon the ‘Typical Price’. So if for example you decide to buy a moisturiser for £15 which has a typical price of £100, you lose £100 from your allowance, not the £15 that you have actually spent.
  3. The products are nice. BUT there’s so many brands out there that I can find products of a similar quality on the high-street or through online retailers, without having to pay a monthly or annual membership fee. I don’t think I’ve found a single product that is truly worth having to pay a membership fee to access.
  4. You had to pay for shipping. This meant the costs added up quickly. I would be paying £10 a month to access products, then paying for products, then having to pay shipping.

With the way things are at the moment, my outgoings are being evaluated. Sadly Beauty Pie was the first to be chopped. I’d happily buy from them without the subscription model. It’s now just come to point where my thoughts are ‘I pay £10 towards something I want or need vs £10 just to access some products’. Adding the fact they’re not as affordable as they once were, I have unsubscribed
