If there is one ingredient I will use in every routine it would be Ceramides. Ceramides are lipids that are naturally found in the skins outer layer.

They strengthen the skin barrier by acting as the glue that hold the cells together making them essential to a strong, healthy skin barrier by increasing water retention, preventing transepidermal water loss and creating a barrier on the skin which repels water and environmental damage.

Ceramides are fantastic in skincare because all skin types need them and will benefit from them immensely.

You can find them in many products from cleansers to serums to moisturisers. I personally love them in a moisturiser. They help keep my skin barrier strong, minimising the effect from vitamin A products, and also really help my dry skin remain hydrated.

Here are a few of my current go-to moisturisers that contain ceramides:-

Kate Somerville DeliKate Recovery Cream

This has featured on my page so many times. It’s absolutely brilliant if your barrier is damaged and you skin is sore, irritated and angry. It’s got the most beautiful thick texture, which melts into the skin, instantly relieving it.

Skin Proud Daily Saviour Skin Restoring Cream*

This is a very nourishing but lightweight on the skin option. It maintains the skin’s moisture, helps protect the skin and is packed with vitamins and nourishing oils. This is more lightweight than the Kate Somerville.

Skin City 24H Barrier Extreme Cream

Another product that’s featured on my page so many times. It reminds me a little bit of La Roche Posay’s Cicaplast. It’s fantastic if your skin is dry, dehydrated or your barrier is impaired.

Stratia Liquid Gold*

A recent favourite of mine. It has three different types of ceramides making it excellent for skin barrier repair but also has three different types of oils for nourishing dry skin as well as Niacinamide to help brighten. It’s a does-it-all moisturiser for sure.

Ambigoose Powerhouse*

This is a great moisturiser, not only because it contains ceramides but it also contains so many other wonderful ingredients – Niacinamide, Panthenol, Bakuchiol, Peptides, Vitamin E & F … the list goes on.
