HydraKate is a new range from Kate Somerville that launched last year. The aim of the range is to deliver long-lasting hydration to the skin. And it works exceptionally well.

When your skin gets dehydrated, you will often see more fine lines appear than if your skin is hydrated. Dehydrated skin can often be mistaken for visible signs of ageing. I have so many people tell me they’re ageing before their years, when actually all their skin needs is a hydrating routine and most of the visible signs they were experiencing go away. That’s what makes the Kate Somerville HydraKate range so brilliant – its focus is purely on hydration and each product is like a drink of water for your skin.

Both products are formulated with Nobel Prize winning AquaPort Technology, which helps deliver lasting hydration faster and deeper into the skin by opening up opens up skin cells and channels. Blue light activated Algae has also been included to boost skin radiance and combat against photo & digital ageing.

I cannot even begin to explain the difference these two products have made to the hydration levels within my skin. Typically during winter, by 2 o’clock in the afternoon, my skin is beginning to feel tight. Since using these two products, I haven’t had that feeling and haven’t had to make a mad dash for a moisturiser or mist.

Recharging Serum

This is incredibly lightweight, but really packs a punch when it comes to hydration. It’s phenomenal if your skin is fatigued, looks dull or feels dry or tight. Any dryness or dullness is immediately put to bed within seconds of application. I’ve noticed since using this my skin is much more radiant, supple and pretty much never feels dehydrated or dry.

The texture is a beautiful milky-gel consistency that doesn’t ever feel sticky. 1-2 pumps is all you need to cover the entire face and neck. There’s immediate flattering glow on application and plays well with layering other products. I’ve used this in various different routines with different products, and I’ve never experienced any pilling whilst using this.

There is a faint naturally derived aloe scent to the product, which I find fresh. It’s not overpowering in any way.

For those wondering how it compares to the HydraQuench Serum (discontinued now), HydraQuench had a more oily texture, whereas this has more of a lightweight milky-gel texture

Along with the AquaPort Technology the serum contains dual weight Hyaluronic Acid for long-lasting hydration.

I honestly feel I’m forever going to have this in my stash now. I am just utterly obsessed with it.

Recharging Water Cream

This gel-cream formula is like a drink of water for the skin. My skin feels radiant, plump and bouncy for the whole day when I’ve used it.

There’s a cooling sensation when applied and the silky texture absorbs quickly, leaving no sticky or greasy residue. My skin literally drinks it up.

The thing that surprises me most about this one is just how much I love it in the winter. Being a gel-cream texture, I would normally go for something like this in the summer. We’re in the dead of winter right now, and I’m super surprised that this is sufficient enough for my dry skin. This is truly so hydrating that my more occlusive moisturisers haven’t had a look in since my first use.

Alongside the Aqua Port Technology and the Blue Light Activated Algae, the Recharging Water Cream contains Marigold Flower Extract to support elasticity and improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

As with the serum, there is a faint aloe scent to the cream.

Never in my life have I been so impressed with the amount of hydration a skincare product can provide. I could feel the difference with just one use, and the results just keep getting better and better. I’ve already repurchased both for when these run out.

Both would be brilliant for wearing underneath makeup. If you’re one of those people whose makeup goes patchy after a while, you will probably find that the Kate Somerville HydraKate products will prevent this from happening.

If you’re unsure what to go for, go for the serum in the first instance. There is currently a set available at katesomerville.co.uk that contains both products, with a generous 25% off if you wish to try both.

Will you be giving these a try?
