Tatcha have recently launched The Silk Serum. Tatcha are a brand known for their beautifully luxurious skincare products, and does this give you just that.

What is it?

Tatcha The Silk Serum is designed to be a natural alternative to retinol, giving you all the benefits you would see from retinol (such as reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, firming, promoting even tone and texture, etc) without the irritation. It doesn’t stop there though, because the Silk Serum also helps hydrate, reduce redness, and not be sun-sensitising. This makes The Silk Serum an excellent choice if you are sensitive, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Do I Think?

The key ingredients with The Silk Serum include Upcycled Cranberry Extract which helps stimulate collagen thanks to the peptides and amino acids contained within it. Sea Fennel soothes the skin and helps reduce any roughness. They’ve also included Silk Protein, which helps smooth and plump the skin, thanks to its moisture-binding properties. Finally, Hadasei-3, Tatcha’s proprietary complex of rice, green tea and algae help to promote a radiance, healthy skin.

I can’t even begin to describe how hydrating this feels on the skin. Within seconds of application, my dry skin is immediately relieved of that tight feeling. It has a plumping effect on the skin, and gives the skin a beautiful radiance. In a clinical study, after four weeks 85% of people testing the product showed an improvement in the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Everything about this feels luxurious – from the packaging to the texture – everything just feels amazing.

What I really like about this is that it’s really easy to slot into your routines. You can use this day and/or night and it plays really well with other products too. It doesn’t have any contraindications, so you can layer it with whatever products you desire. And you don’t have to worry about your skin getting sensitised.

Whilst this has been formulated with pregnant people and those with sensitive skin in mind, it’s actually a really good choice for all. Sometimes we all need to use something more gentle and soothing in our routines. This serum will not make you feel like you’re missing out by not using your harsher skincare actives.

Would I Recommend?

It’s a really nice serum. Even to use alongside your retinol serum (if money is no object to you). A lot of people are put off by retinol alternatives, but actually in many instances they are needed. Not everyone’s skin can tolerate retinoids and they need a gentler approach. Furthermore, there are times when people may wish to avoid retinols (such as when pregnant) and look for an alternative.

I would!
