How I Budget My Skincare

💸 So many products, such different price ranges.  How do you budget your skincare? 💸

I am strongly of the opinion that you shouldn’t ever get yourself in to debt for skincare.  I’ve always taken the stance throughout life that if I can’t afford something, I won’t buy it. I am big on having savings behind me for emergencies and think it’s beneficial for everyone to have savings if they can.  It’s relaxing to have some financial security behind you.

There are so many great products on the market, all at different price points and so I feel it is important that you buy for the budget you have.  I’ve not long purchased a house, and so in recent times I have been looking at budget friendly skincare purchases.  Brands like The Ordinary, The Inkey List, Garden of Wisdom, CeraVe and Revolution Skincare have made good skincare affordable for all.  Don’t get me wrong, the more expensive products are really nice to have – but only if you can afford the price.

When purchasing my skincare I think about the following questions:-

1. Are all my bills and any other financial commitments paid?

2. Have I put a little bit of money aside for savings?

If the two questions above are answered with ‘yes’, then I tend to buy what I want within reason.  I’m in a lucky position where I do have ‘disposable income’, but I realise not everyone else is in the same situation.  In the past when I haven’t had as much disposable income, I’ve asked myself these additional questions:-

4. Do I need it right now? Is there something else in my stash I could use up first?

5. Will I use it?

6. Is there a more affordable option available?

If still I’m tempted to go ahead, I will then look at reviews online, on TikTok/Youtube/Instagram usually by someone who has the same skin type as more or skin concerns. This helps me think before I buy and not get caught up in the exciting hype of a purchase.

I also make savings on my skincare products by keeping an eye out for sales, discount codes and shopping in places like TKMaxx.  Take a look at some of your favourite Instagram accounts – they often have discount codes provided by brands for you to use!
