I have been loving the Harborist Hyper-Gentle Balm-Gel Cleanser since I received it earlier in the year. Now we’re in the colder months, I’m really ramping up the usage of it because it’s perfect for sensitised winter skin.

What is it?

A hydrating, moisturising and gentle cleansing balm.

What Do I Think?

This is a classic cleansing balm. It comes out the pump as a sort of gel-like texture and melts into an oil when massaged into the skin. You can them emulsify it by adding water where it transforms into a gorgeous milky consistency.

They’ve formulated this to be as gentle as possible to the skin. Cleansing can actually be quite abrasive, something that Harborist wanted to avoid when developing this cleanser. It contains 20% Plant Glycerine, Jojoba, Avocado and Camellia Seed Oils and Bisabobol. These all work together to cleanse the skin but pack nutrience, moisture and hydration back into the skin.

It melts down makeup, sunscreen and dirt extremely well. It’s non-irritating and good for days when your skin is feeling sensitive or your barrier is compromised. As someone with dry skin, I really like the fact that this doesn’t leave my skin yearning for moisture afterwards. It simply leaves my face feeling clean, comfortable, hydrated and soothed.

I feel this does a good enough job on its own at cleaning the skin without the need for a double cleanse. I also love that you can rinse it off without leaving a residue, so you don’t need to use a cloth to remove it. Whilst I would predominantly use this in the evening, I have actually been using it as a morning cleanse when I feel like my face needs a bit of nurturing.

This doesn’t contain any fragrance or essential oils, so it’s excellent choice if your skin is sensitive to those. Whilst I do normally prefer a scent in a cleanser, I don’t really miss it with this one because the experience of using it is really pleasant.

This would be a really good cleanser for you if you want something gentle, but equally need to ensure your face is cleaned thoroughly.

Would I recommend?

Yes – especially if you’re someone who has sensitive skin and want something nourishing.

Brands Product Description

Massage a little of the Harborist Hyper-Gentle Balm-Gel Cleanser concentrated gelled oil into your skin to lift sunscreen and foundation without upsetting your delicate skin barrier.

A simple splash of water transforms the golden gel to a thin milk, for effortless removal.

20% glycerine leaves a hydrated after-feel too.

A small amount is all that’s needed; one bottle contains approximately 125 pumps of gel, and you can use between 1-4 for each cleanse.

Key Ingredients

  • 20% Plant Glycerine – attracts and locks moisture into the skin.
  • Jojoba, Avocado and Camellia Seed Oils – Nourishing and moisturising on the skin.
  • Bisabolol – Calming & Soothing.

How I Use It

I use this in my evening routine. The brand suggest applying this to slightly damp skin, which works well. I personally like to apply to dry skin and give my face a good massage before wetting my hands an emulsifying it.

I personally felt this cleaned my skin enough without the need for a second cleanse, but you could follow with a second cleanse if you wanted to.

Yes! It was a true winter saviour.
