The new year has ushered in a wave of exciting skincare launches, and among them is a fresh take on an old favourite – Alpha-H Liquid Gold + Vitamin C. As a long-time fan of the original Liquid Gold, I was eager to see how this new iteration stacks up. Read my review of the original Liquid Gold here.

What is it?

An exfoliating treatment designed to brighten the skin, even skin tone and texture and prevent breakouts.

What Do I Think?

At its core, this formula retains the same 5% Glycolic Acid base that made the original a cult classic, but now comes supercharged with Vitamin C. It’s a welcome addition for anyone concerned with dullness or pigmentation. Vitamin C is renowned for its brightening abilities, and Alpha-H have opted for 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, a stable, gentle derivative of pure Ascorbic Acid. This is an important choice, as Glycolic Acid and pure Ascorbic Acid can sometimes be irritating, particularly for sensitive skin, so the choice to use a derivative which is gentler is great. To counterbalance any potential sensitivity, they’ve included Silk Proteins for hydration and Australian Tazman Pepper to help calm redness.

Application is as easy as ever – just saturate a cotton pad and swipe it over clean skin. While Alpha-H recommend using it as a standalone treatment (not a toner), I personally like to follow up with a light moisturiser to add extra nourishment for my dry skin.

Come morning, expect smoother, brighter skin. Dead skin cells are gently sloughed away, pores appear refined, and your complexion takes on that healthy, youthful glow. With continued use (no more than three times a week, please), you’ll see long-term improvements in tone and luminosity. As an added perk, your moisturiser will absorb more effectively, and makeup will sit, apply more smoothly and look better on your skin.

Would I recommend?

Reformulations of beloved products always carry some risk, but Liquid Gold + Vitamin C feels like a seamless evolution rather. It delivers everything I love about the original while giving an extra boost to radiance and clarity. A solid addition to the Alpha-H lineup and one I’ll keep in rotation.

Brands Product Description

Reveal your brightest skin yet with the cult 5% Glycolic Acid exfoliating treatment clinically proven to increase luminosity, improve elasticity and even tone and texture – now supercharged with Vitamin C.

Key Ingredients

  • 5% Glycolic Acid – Exfoliates the skin by dissolving the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, which leads to a more radiant, smoother and even skin.
  • Vitamin C – Has antioxidant properties which help protect against environmental aggressors, like UV Rays. It also slows excess melanin production, reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.
  • Silk Proteins – Hydrates the skin and protects it from environmental aggressors.
  • Australian Tazman Pepper – Has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to reduce the appearance of redness.

How I Use It

I use this in the evening after cleansing. Whilst the brand suggest you shouldn’t follow with a moisturiser, or any other product for that matter, I personally like a light layer of moisturiser over it.
