Skincare apps can be hit or miss. Some are glorified product pushers, while others make dubious claims about “analyzing” your skin via a blurry front-camera selfie. So, when La Roche Posay launched SpotScan+ Coach, I was naturally sceptical. An app that uses AI to assess your skin and build a routine, all developed with dermatologists? It sounded ambitious. But, as it turns out, it’s actually pretty useful.

The idea is simple. You download the free app, fill out a quick survey, and take a photo (which, thankfully, gets deleted after analysis). The app then scans your skin using its Spotscan+ tech and suggests a routine based on your specific concerns – pulling from the La Roche-Posay range.

If, like many people, your biggest skincare struggle is consistency, the app also includes a 21-day Coaching Challenge to help you stick to a morning and evening routine. It tracks your progress and offers daily coaching tips, articles, audios, and videos from dermatologists, nutritionists, and mental health experts.

I went in prepared to roll my eyes, but I have to admit – the recommendations were spot on. The app suggested Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser, Toleriane Sensitive Crème, and Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF50+, all of which I’d pick myself as someone with dry skin. So, credit where it’s due the AI worked.

If you’re new to La Roche-Posay and don’t know where to start, or if you just like the idea of having an expert-led skincare guide in your pocket, it’s worth a download. And if nothing else, you might pick up a few solid skincare tips along the way.
