Commodity Fragrances Expressive Discovery Kit Review

Commodity Fragrances

I first encountered Commodity Fragrances via the enthusiastic endorsement of @skincaresteve on Instagram, whose glowing review left me intrigued. With an appetite for something fresh in my fragrance wardrobe, I promptly ordered one of their Discovery Kits. While my review may be fashionably late (these kits have since been updated with a few new additions), the core experience remains unchanged: Commodity’s Discovery Kits are a masterclass in presentation, innovation, and sheer olfactory joy.

One of the brand’s standout features is its approach to customization, offering fragrances in three distinct Scent Spaces – a stroke of genius, really, for anyone who has ever been overwhelmed by the question, “Is this too much?” The Personal collection whispers, designed to be noticed only by those close to you. Expressive, my choice, strikes a happy medium, projecting enough to garner compliments without bowling over the room. For the bold and unapologetically scent-forward, there’s Bold, which ensures you make an entrance.

My Expressive Discovery Kit included six samples – Moss, Book, Velvet, Gold, Milk, and Paper – each accompanied by blotter cards and a beautifully crafted guide to their notes. The experience of exploring these scents was not just delightful but surprisingly consistent: all but one made the cut, which is practically unheard of with sample sets.

Commodity Fragrances Moss

The greenest of greens, this blend of Oakmoss, Cedarwood, and Petitgrain evokes a woodland walk just after rain. While many describe it as citrus-forward, I found it overwhelmingly mossy and earthy. A bit too damp and verdant for my taste, but a triumph if you’re drawn to nature’s wilder side.

Commodity Fragrances Book

A crisp, woody mix of Eucalyptus, Sandalwood, and Cedarwood, this feels like curling up by the fire with, yes, a good book. Comforting yet clean, it’s perfect for cosy evenings or whenever you crave a grounding scent.

Commodity Fragrances Velvet

Infused with Roasted Almond, Rose Petals, and Black Amber, this is unabashedly sexy. The name says it all: it’s rich, plush, and enveloping – a fragrance for glamorous nights out, swanky hotel bars, and little black dresses or smart shirt, bow tie and velvet blazer.

Commodity Fragrances Gold

A warm, gourmand marvel of molten amber, creamy sandalwood, and sweet vanilla. If you love a dessert-inspired scent, this one’s for you. It’s luxurious and rich, but somehow never cloying – a beautifully balanced gourmand.

Commodity Fragrances Milk

Marshmallow, Mahogany Wood, and Tonka Bean create a sweet, creamy concoction that’s anything but saccharine. Its milky warmth is comforting, musky, and quietly intriguing – perfect for those who love soft, sweet scents with a modern edge.

Commodity Fragrances Paper

This minimalist delight celebrates Sandalwood, amplified by Iso E Super, which reacts to your skin’s natural chemistry. The result? A clean, subtle, and deeply personal scent trail. It’s understated yet captivating – the kind of fragrance that makes people lean in closer.

If I had to pick a favourite, Paper and Milk would share the crown for their understated, sexy allure, though Velvet is a close third for special occasions. The only miss for me was Moss, but that’s a matter of personal preference rather than quality.

At just £24, redeemable against a full-size bottle, the Discovery Kit is an absolute steal. It’s a fantastic way to explore the brand’s thoughtful and beautifully executed approach to fragrance. Whether you’re dipping a toe into Commodity’s world or are a seasoned fragrance lover, this set is a joy to experience.
