The latest launch from Dermalogica, the Biolumin-C Heat Aging Protector SPF50, might just be the staple product in your summer skincare routine. Let me explain why…
What is it?
A daily moisturiser with SPF50 designed to protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays, while defending the skin against aging from heat.
What Do I Think?
At first glance, it’s a solid daily moisturiser with SPF 50, which in itself is a worthy addition to any routine. But dig a little deeper and it becomes clear this isn’t your typical sun cream in fancy packaging. Packed with ultra stable Vitamin C and something fancy named ThermaRadiance Complex, it’s designed not only to protect against UVA and UVB damage, but also the lesser talked about heat-induced ageing. Yes, that’s a thing. Apparently, high temperatures – whether from the sun, central heating, or your own phone clamped to your cheek – can accelerate skin ageing. Something I was never aware of until I heard about this launch.
So what exactly is this mysterious ThermaRadiance Complex? It’s a blend of Physalis (that’s the little golden berry you get on top of fancy desserts) and antioxidant Vitamin E, working together to fend off dullness, dehydration, uneven texture, and the inevitable fine lines that sneak up on all of us.
Texture-wise, it’s a dream. Hydrating without being greasy, lightweight but not too lightweight you don’t feel it, and with enough nourishment that even my dry, often parched skin doesn’t require a moisturiser underneath. The formula includes Bisabolol and Allantoin – two ingredients well known for their soothing properties – plus nourishing safflower oleosomes. All of which sit in a satisfyingly creamy base without tipping into heavy territory.
The scent? Gently citrusy, fresh, and subtle enough not to offend first thing in the morning. This is one of those creams that layers beautifully under makeup, doesn’t pill, and gives a healthy, flattering glow.
Would I recommend?
If, like me, you usually dread layering serums, moisturiser and sunscreen in the sweltering summer months, this could be your one-and-done hero. This is absolutely going in my travel bag for my holiday later this year – if I don’t finish the tube before then. And if I do, I’ll absolutely buying another one.
