The idea behind Dcypher is one that immediately piqued my interest. Finding a perfectly matched foundation has long been a frustration for so many people. Over the years, I’ve heard countless tales of mismatched shades, department store lighting disasters, and the intimidating experience of sitting at a counter while someone with an entirely different complexion tries to find “your shade.”

Dcypher, however, takes a refreshingly modern approach. They promise to create a custom foundation, concealer, or pigment drops tailored to your skin tone, all from the comfort of your home. Using a simple scan of your face via a phone or laptop camera, alongside a few basic questions, they craft a bespoke formula just for you.

What is it?

A body lotion with retinol in designed to tackle many skin concerns, from signs of ageing to pigmentation and breakouts.

What Do I Think?

Now, I should say upfront – I’m not a makeup wearer. The closest I come to makeup is Trinny London’s BFF Cream, and even then, it’s more about the SPF30 than the pigment. But when I was offered the chance to try Dcypher My Custom Drops, I decided to give it a go, to see how accurate the match could be. The drops can be mixed with your moisturiser to create a bespoke tinted moisturiser, which appealed to my low-maintenance approach.

A few days later, the drops arrived, along with a card detailing my unique Skin Tone ID, undertone, and skin tone information – everything needed for future orders. And here’s where I was genuinely impressed: the match was near-perfect. I’d taken my photo on a grim, overcast day near a window, and yet they’d nailed it. I was sceptical that a photo could replace traditional colour-matching, but it worked.

The drops perform best when mixed with moisturiser, as recommended. On their own, they can feel slightly chalky, but mixed, they deliver a lovely sheer coverage that looks like skin, not makeup. And if you’re not happy with your match, Dcypher offers up to three adjustments – or a full refund if they still can’t get it right.

Would I recommend?

For anyone who struggles with shade matching or just hates the thought of counter-testing, this is a clever, accessible solution that genuinely delivers.
