Throughout my teen years, @lorealparis Men Expert range was my go-to range when shopping for skincare. Years later, I’m pleased that the range still holds its own, and it’s latest launch, the L’Oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Daily Invisible Fluid SPF50 is one product I’m enjoying immensely.
What is it?
A fluid, lightweight SPF50 sunscreen which offers broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
What Do I Think?
This fluid sunscreen is the definition of decent protection without any sort of compromise. It’s lightweight, transparent, and (crucially) non-greasy. It glides on like a serum and settles to an impressive undetectable finish. There’s no chalky cast, no sticky residue, no irritating sheen just well protected, comfortable skin.
For men who recoil at the idea of anything too rich, scented like flowers, or visible in a beard, this is perfect. It’s got that typical L’Oréal Men expert fragrance (clean, synthetic, masculine) but it’s subtle and won’t linger long enough to offend. I personally like it, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t usually like the usual ‘man scent’ in skincare. A huge bonus is, unlike many SPF formulas, it doesn’t clump into stubble. A pet peeve of mine is sunscreen that clumps around facial hair. Swipe it on and you’re done, without the need to spend a good five minutes trying to massage the clumps out of your stubble.
The formula also throws in Vitamin C which is a useful addition for brightening and helping to even out tone. It’s therefore a great little multitasker for a minimalist routine. Though to be clear, it’s the high sun protection (SPF50 broad spectrum) that’s the real selling point here. Any antioxidant perks are a bonus.
Would I recommend?
It’s not a groundbreaking product in terms of formulation and it’s virtually identical to L’Oréal’s Revitalift Clinical SPF50 in texture and function but for men who prefer their skincare to be straightforward, and aimed at them, this version is likely to appeal.
If the branding makes them more likely to use it, then frankly, that’s a win. Because ultimately, the best sunscreen is the one you’ll actually wear. And this, I suspect, will be worn gladly by many.
