Three The Ordinary Favourites

The Ordinary

There was a time when The Ordinary dominated my bathroom shelf, as it did so many others. It democratised active skincare, putting formerly elusive ingredients into straightforward, affordable formulas. Yes, you could also they made skincare more complicated and confusing, but you have to give them their due. Without them, there wouldn’t be half as many affordable brands there are now. Years on, I no longer rely on the range exclusively, but a few of its heroes still hold court in my rotation. These three, in particular, have truly stood the test of time and become my The Ordinary Favourites.

🤍 The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum

Once known as “Buffet”, this remains one of the best peptide serums around. Light, hydrating, and effective, it uses several proven peptides (Matrixyl, Argirelox, SYN-AKE among them) to boost elasticity and soften the appearance of fine lines. It’s the sort of ‘does a bit of everything’ serum that works beautifully in almost any routine.

🤍 The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

There’s absolutely no need to overspend on a hyaluronic serum, and this one has long been a go to for me. With multiple molecular weights of hyaluronic acid plus panthenol (vitamin B5), it hydrates, plumps and layers like a dream under moisturiser or SPF. The texture’s just right… not too tacky, not too runny and it gives skin that cushiony bounce you want from a hyaluronic.

🤍 The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Yes, it’s a little divisive (some find it too strong or irritating) but used carefully and appropriately, this can be an excellent tool for those dealing with oiliness or the odd hormonal breakout. The high dose of niacinamide supports barrier health and brightens tone, while zinc PCA helps with sebum and inflammation. A long-time staple for a reason, but best avoided if your skin’s on the  reactive side.
