Last year, I packed for a sunshine holiday with my usual arsenal of high SPF (always 50, without exception), but I also slipped in a bottle of Sun Bum After Sun Cool Down Spray. Strictly speaking, I didn’t need it for burns (I’m vigilant with sun protection) but I thought it might be nice to keep skin feeling comfortable after long days outdoors.

What Do I Think?
After sun formulas often feel like an aftercare product you only reach for when you’ve overdone it, but this one doubles nicely as a cooling body mist that hydrates thirsty skin whether or not you’ve been basking on a lounger all afternoon.
The formula itself is well thought through. There’s Vitamin E to tackle free radicals, aloe for its classic soothing, and cucumber extract for a hit of hydration alongside the usual cocktail of minerals and vitamins. It’s exactly what you’d want from an after sun.
In practice, it mostly delivers. The skin does feel softer and nicely replenished afterwards, and the fine mist makes application quick and painless. That said, I’d quibble with the “non-greasy” claim. While it’s by no means unpleasant, it does leave a slight oily film that lingers, especially if you’re heavy handed. Personally, I didn’t mind this. On sun-parched skin, that richer texture can feel rather nice. There’s also a subtle cooling effect, which would be a godsend if you’d caught the sun a little too enthusiastically.
A small but important word of warning: the spray is so fine and continuous that it can land on the floor and create a skating rink effect. Best to mist it into your hands and smooth it on, particularly if you’re using it anywhere near tiles or wooden floors.
Would I recommend?
This is a solid, good-value after sun that goes beyond basic aloe gel, doubling as a skin-quenching body mist with a beachy, easygoing vibe. If you’re fussy about residue, it may not be your favourite, but if you like the idea of a cooling, hydrating treat after a day in the sun, this is one to look at.
