The Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser is one of those products I’d more or less written off before trying. The consensus online was that it was drying, and as someone with perpetually thirsty skin, I didn’t think it was worth the risk. Then a bottle arrived, I tried it, and was reminded yet again that you really can’t know until you’ve lived with a product on your own face.
What is it?
A exfoliator which contains both physical and chemical exfoliants which help refine skin texture and promote an even skin tone.
What Do I Think?
It’s a clear gel cleanser housed in pleasingly sturdy glass packaging, the sort of bottle you’d happily keep out on the sink. The texture is thicker than your average gel wash, producing a soft lathery foam when massaged into damp skin. The formula combines mild surfactants with kale, spinach and green tea extract, a slightly earnest-sounding “superfood” cocktail that, in fairness, brings a decent hit of antioxidants alongside the cleansing. The scent is fresh, green and herby in a way that feels expensive, but not so strong that it clings or irritates.
One pump is all you need for face and neck, and while I wouldn’t rely on it to remove a full face of long-wear foundation and waterproof mascara, it makes an excellent morning cleanse or a refreshing second cleanse at night.
Most importantly, it didn’t leave me with that parched, tight sensation I’d been bracing myself for. Through the summer, I found it comfortable, balancing and properly clean without being at all squeaky. I’d likely park it in winter in favour of something milkier and more cushioning, but that’s more about my skin type than any fault in the product itself.

Would I recommend?
Yes. Ultimately, it’s proof that consensus doesn’t always apply. For every person who found this drying, there’ll be another who swears by it. And for me, it turned out to be one of the more pleasant gel cleansers I’ve tried.
