Tatcha The Silk Cream Review

Tatcha The Silk Cream

Few brands do luxury packaging and sensorial experience quite like Tatcha. Everything about it feels indulgent, from the weight of the jar to the ritualistic spatula you’re supposed to scoop it with (though, if we’re honest, most of us end up just using our fingers). Tatcha The Silk Cream is no exception.

What is it?

It’s a rich yet feather-light gel cream that promises hydration, barrier support and a touch of visible firmness.

What Do I Think?

On paper, the formula is impressive. There’s Tatcha’s signature Hadasei-3 (a blend of Japanese rice, algae and green tea), hydrolysed silk for that silky skin feel, Bulgarian rose to soften lines, and squalane for nourishment. In use, it absorbs beautifully, sitting somewhere between a cream and a gel. It feels light and breathable but still delivers that reassuring, cushioned moisture you’d expect from a highend moisturiser. There’s no tackiness, no residue, and crucially, no pilling over serums.

Skin feels instantly softened, comforted, and hydrated, whether used day or night. The fragrance is subtle, which I appreciate. It’s just enough to make the experience feel luxe, without clashing with everything else you’ve got on your face.

But here’s the bad… while it absolutely does the job and leaves skin plump and comfortable, I can’t say it’s transformed my complexion in the way other creams in this price bracket have. For instance, Kate Somerville’s Total Repair Cream still edges it for me, because I can actually see and feel a visible improvement after every use. The Silk Cream, lovely as it is, feels more like a steady hydrator than a true gamechanger.

As for how it stacks up against Tatcha’s own Dewy Skin Cream? For my money, the Dewy wins. It gives me that lit-from-within glow that The Silk Cream can’t quite replicate, and at a lower price.

Would I recommend?

Yes. If you want something lighter in texture that won’t swamp the skin but will still keep it comfortably hydrated, Tatcha The Silk Cream is a very elegant choice. If you yearn for a slightly richer moisturiser which leaves a dewy, I’d opt for the Dewy Skin Cream instead.
