I have a long-standing weakness for creamy cleansers, so it was inevitable that when Deviant Skincare launched their new Pro-Biome Hydrating Cleanser, I’d be all over it. Since it arrived, it’s become my go to cleanser which is always the mark of something properly good.
What is it?
This is a gel-cream cleanser that sits firmly in the kind but effective camp.
What Do I Think?
It uses new generation glycolipids rather than old-school, stripping surfactants, so it removes the day without leaving skin feeling flustered or tight. It’s sulphate free and designed to play nicely with the skin barrier, with a thoughtful supporting cast of biomimetic amino acids, electrolytes and prebiotics to soothe, hydrate and keep the microbiome on side.
The result is skin that feels clean and comfortable but not squeaky.
It’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive or barrier impaired skin, and can be used morning and night. If you’re devoted to a double cleanse, this works best as your second step. I’m lazier than that most days, and I’ve been happily using it as a single cleanse with no complaints from my skin.
Officially, you’re meant to apply it to damp skin and rinse. In practice, I prefer it on dry skin, massaging it in to loosen everything, then adding a little water to bring it to whip up a light lather before rinsing. It’s forgiving enough to work either way, which I always appreciate. There’s no noticeable scent, which feels appropriate given how gentle and unfussy the formula is.

Would I recommend?
Yes. The Deviant Skincare Pro-Biome Hydrating Cleanser is one of those cleansers that will appeal to a great many people. It’s comforting, hardworking and appropriate for winter skin that’s been bullied by cold air and central heating. And while I have a lot of affection for Deviant’s Cleansing Concentrate, this one has overtaken it as my favourite from the brand.
