As the temperature creeps up and the idea of slathering on a rich winter moisturiser becomes increasingly unappealing, the annual hunt for something lighter begins. The answer, more often than not, is a water cream, and the Dermalogica Pro-Collagen Banking Water Cream is the latest entry into that particular category.

What is it?

A lightweight, hydrating water cream which promises to help plump and preserve collagen and elastin.

What Do I Think?

Water creams live or die on one thing and that’s whether they can actually hydrate dry skin properly without the texture of a proper moisturiser behind them. Many don’t manage it. The formula is watery, the finish is fine, but by mid-afternoon the skin feels tight. This one doesn’t do that. It’s genuinely lightweight and disappears into skin almost immediately leaving nothing behind except a comfortable, hydrated, plumped feeling that holds throughout the day.

The formula is doing some serious work underneath that breezy texture, which is exactly what you want. There’s a peptide complex combining Collagen Amino Acids, Zinc Glycinate and Carnosine Dipeptide, alongside Jojoba Ester to tackle oxidative stress and help keep the early signs of ageing at bay. Extremophilic Red Algae and White Clover work on visible firmness and smoothness, while the whole thing is built around mineral-rich marine spring water that activates on contact to push moisture deep into skin. Biofermented Radish Root Extract rounds things out by locking that hydration in and reinforcing the barrier. It’s the sort of thorough, considered ingredient list that Dermalogica consistently delivers, and that keeps their following so stubbornly devoted.

The skin this most obviously suits is dehydrated or that’s lacking in bounce or where skin looks dull rather than glowing. It would also suit anyone in the earlier stages of thinking about collagen support, who wants to get ahead of things rather than play catch up. And if you’re someone who finds heavier creams genuinely unbearable once the weather turns but whose skin still demands proper feeding, this resolves that issue rather neatly.

Would I recommend?

Yes. It is, in short, exactly the kind of product Dermalogica is very good at… thoroughly well-formulated, and solving a real problem. A warm-weather staple that earns its shelf space.

How I Use It

I use this after my serums. If wearing in the day, I’d apply a sunscreen over the top of it. Personally, I like the Dermalogica Pro-Collagen Banking Water Cream as a day time moisturiser, but you could use it at night too.
