I cannot remember exactly how the Hair by Sam McKnight Happy Endings Nourishing Balm product arrived in my life. A SpaceNK advent calendar, perhaps, or a gift with purchase picked up at some point and forgotten about until it surfaced in a drawer. However it made its way to me, I am glad it did.
What is it?
A nourishing hair balm designed to defrizz, defluff, seal split ends and define without weighing hair down.
What Do I Think?
The Happy Endings Nourishing Balm is a finishing product, and a very good one. It contains Pro-Vitamin B5 and shea butter for conditioning, alongside mushroom-derived chitosan microcapsules that release softness and shine incrementally throughout the day, reactivating whenever hair is combed or brushed. It claims to seal 50% of split ends instantly, which is the kind of statistic that is difficult to verify at home but the overall effect on hair is genuinely noticeable.
I use it after a sea salt spray, which is where it earns its place most convincingly. Sea salt sprays are excellent for volume and texture but can leave hair feeling crispy and slightly parched. A bit of this worked through the ends removes that dryness and brings everything back to feeling natural, soft and glossy looking rather than dull but styled within an inch of its life.
It works on damp or dry hair, which gives it flexibility across different routines. On damp hair it seals in hydration during the drying process. On dry hair it adds shine, smooths frizz and defines without weighing anything down. It is light enough for fine hair, which rules out a great many finishing products in this category.
The scent is also worth mentioning. Frankincense, juniper wood and water lily, created in collaboration with Perfumer H and described by Sam McKnight as reminiscent of his garden in the rain. It is distinctive and genuinely lovely without being overpowering.
And as a complete side note, it works well as a hand cream. I simply rub in any excess products into my hands and it leaves them soft and moisturised but never greasy.
A small amount of product goes a long way. A pea-sized amount works well for my short hair, but one to two pumps from the full size is sufficient for longer hair, and the bottle lasts accordingly.
Would I recommend?
Yes. If your hair seeks some extra nourishment, but you do not want to weigh your hair down, then Hair By Sam McKnight Happy Endings Nourishing Balm is a good option.

How I Use It
