Snail mucin has had a remarkable few years in Western skincare. It went from being the kind of ingredient that prompted raised eyebrows and polite scepticism to something that serious skincare enthusiasts reach for without a second thought. The evidence behind it is genuine. It hydrates, it supports skin repair and it improves elasticity over time. Beauty of Joseon have made it a centrepiece of their Revive Serum, and the result is great.
What is it?
A hydrating serum for skin that is lacking hydration and lost its bounce.
What Do I Think?
THe formula contains 3% snail mucin alongside ginseng root water which makes up 63.5% of the base. Ginseng brings antioxidant benefits and may support collagen stimulation and skin regeneration. Niaicinamide and liquorice root extract addresses pigmentation and uneven tone. Centella Asiatica and Mushroom extract soothe and boost hydration further. It is a well considered ingredient list that covers hydration, elasticity, brightening and barrier support in a single step.
The texture is lightweight and smooth. It does not have the gloopy, slightly viscous quality that some snail mucin products carry, which makes it more pleasant to apply. It absorbs reasonably quickly, though it does leave a faint stickiness on the skin. Nothing a moisturiser does not resolved immediately.
For dry skin, and mine is both dry and frequently dehydrated, this works well as a hydration step but will need something on top. It is not enough on its own for anyone on the drier end of the spectrum. For normal, combination or oily skin types it may well be sufficient without additional moisturiser.

Would I recommend?
Yes. The plumping effect is noticeable with consistent use. Fine lines look less pronounced, skin feels bouncier and the brightening ingredients make a modest but visible difference to pigmentation over time. It’s the kind of serum that reveals its work gradually, which is generally how the best skincare works.
