I wanted to like the Supergoop Glow Screen. They’ve built a brand almost entirely around the premise that sunscreen can be something you actually want to use, which is a genuinely worthwhile mission, and they have a devoted following that speaks to how well they’ve executed it across much of their range. The Glow Screen, however, is not for me, and I think it’s worth explaining exactly why.
What is it?
A glowy tinted sunscreen.
What Do I Think?
The concept is appealing enough on paper. It’s a pearlescent SPF that doubles as a makeup-gripping primer, promising luminosity and an evened-out, sunkissed finish. The problem is that sunscreen only works when you apply enough of it, and with this particular product, applying enough of it is where everything falls apart. Three finger lengths, the standard amount for adequate face and neck protection, left me looking less lit-from-within and more spray-painted tin man. A deep, orangey bronze that sat on top of the skin, accentuated every bit of texture, and bore absolutely no resemblance to the flattering glow the marketing suggests. It was, to put it plainly, not a good look.
Glow in skincare can be wonderful, the difference between skin that looks healthy and skin that looks dull and tired. But glow applied with the diligence that sun protection demands is a different thing entirely, and here it tips decisively into too much. I don’t wear foundation, so I can’t say with certainty whether makeup on top would temper the effect, though I suspect it would help somewhat.

Would I recommend?
If you have oily skin, or simply have no interest in any kind of luminous finish, I’d steer well clear. Even once it settles, there’s a greasiness to it that those with oilier complexions will find uncomfortable at best. For the right person, applying it with a deliberately light hand, it might just about work. But a sunscreen that only flatters when used in insufficient quantities is a sunscreen with a problem.
