I’ll be honest. I approach pore-focused cleansers with a fair degree of scepticism. The category is saturated with products that promise to minimise, refine and decongest, and most of them either do very little or leave skin feeling sandblasted and resentful. The Institut Esthederm Osmo Clean Gentle Deep Pore Cleanser, I’m pleased to report, is neither.

What is it?

A purifying cleanser designed to refine skin texture and reduce the visibility of blackheads and pores.

What Do I Think?

This is a cream cleanser which is properly creamy rather than that watery emulsion that passes for cream on lesser products. And it has a rather satisfying party trick. Massaged onto dry skin, the texture thickens and clings as you work it in, which feels purposeful rather than gimmicky. You can genuinely feel it doing something. Rinse it off and skin looks immediately cleaner, clearer, more itself.

What impresses me most, though, is what it simply doesn’t do. I have dry skin, and this category of cleanser, the deep-cleanse, pore-purging sort, normally has me reaching for a rich moisturiser before I’ve even finished patting my face dry. This doesn’t strip. It respects the skin’s natural balance, which Institut Esthederm, to their credit, take seriously across the whole range. My skin afterwards feels thoroughly cleansed without that tight, faintly outraged feeling I’ve come to dread.

I use it two or three times a week rather than daily. It’s that kind of cleanser, the sort you deploy when your skin needs a proper reset rather than a gentle morning rinse. On those days, I don’t bother with a double cleanse. It’s doing enough on its own.

Would I recommend?

If blackheads and enlarged pores are your particular preoccupation, this is genuinely worth your attention. Apply to clean, dry skin on the face, neck and décolleté, massage in small circles with focus on the T-zone, then rinse with warm water. Simple, effective, and rather good.

Brands Product Description

Gentle Deep Pore Cleanser cleanses and unclogs the skin whilst respecting its surface ecosystem. The impurities that dull the complexion are absorbed as the skin is massaged, leaving it feeling incredibly fresh and soft.

Results: the skin is cleansed and purified, making it visibly clearer and healthier. It is soft to the touch, smooth, supple and comfortable. The complexion is radiant and the skin’s transparency and luminosity are restored.

Key Ingredients

  • Cellular Water patent – Cellular Water mimics the water present in our cells and optimises skin cells’ energy to the level of young cells to prolong skin’s youthfulness.
  • Skin Balance System patent – This patented complex helps maintain the balance of this protective flora. It rebalances the skin’s surface ecosystem, activating the skin’s natural defense systems through the production of betadefensins, the skin’s natural antiseptic, which eliminates pathogenic flora (undesirable bacteria).

How I Use It

I apply this to dry skin and massage in. After a minute or so, I’ll add a splash of water to emulsify it and turn it into a foam and massage a little more before rinsing.
