Iceland is probably not the first country that comes to mind when you think of skincare. But it arguably should be. The combination of clean air, pure water and a strong biotechnology tradition has produced some genuinely interesting brands, and ChitoCare, launched in 2018, is one worth knowing about. I’ve recently been testing the ChitoCare Anti-Aging Repair Serum.
What is it?
ChitoCare Beauty Anti-Aging Repair Serum is a gentle serum designed to tackle signs of skin ageing.
What Do I Think?
The brand is built around chitosan, a biopolymer derived from chitin, which is a natural substance found in marine sources. Under mild acidic conditions it becomes positively charged and bio-adhesive, meaning it clings to the skin and forms a protective film. That film does several useful things. It supports moisture retention, encourages skin renewal and provides antioxidant protection. It is an unusual active ingredient in a market saturated with the same rotating cast of retinol, vitamin C and niacinamide, which is part of what makes this serum different to any others on the market.
The Anti-Aging Repair Serum is built around ChitoCare Repair, a patented complex that uses Icelandic marine chitosan to repair the skin barrier, reduce inflammation and improve firmness, elasticity and hydration. It is clinically proven and, notably, stable. Unlike retinol or standard vitamin C, it does not oxidise and does not irritate, which makes it suitable for sensitive, rosacea-prone and menopausal skin.
The formula is a clear liquid that dispenses cleanly from a well-designed pump bottle. It absorbs without any tackiness and delivers an immediate plumping and hydrating effect. As the colder months arrive and skin starts to feel the pressure of central heating and dropping temperatures, this is the kind of serum that will earn its keep.

Would I recommend?
It is expensive, and I will not pretend otherwise. But for sensitive or reactive skin that cannot tolerate the more aggressive actives, a serum that actually works without causing a flare-up might be worth paying for. Budget permitting, this is a considered and effective choice.

Probably not. Not because it’s bad, but because it’s a little more pricey than I’d like to spend on my serums.
